Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black pearl (2003) is an adventure fantasy film based upon the Disney theme park ride directed by Gore Verbinski with a screenplay by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio. It follows the adventures of a black smith and a pirate as they attempt to rescue the Governor's daughter from cursed pirates.

DADDY: What did you think of the movie? 

LILLY: It was spectacular!

DADDY: I thought so too and I went to see it twice when it was released because it is such a cool movie.

LILLY:  Really?

DADDY: Yes I had to take mummy to see it too.

DADDY: Who was your favourite character?

LILLY: Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) because I love his role in the movie.

DADDY: He is really funny and crazy but also he's a great hero.

LILLY: I agree.

DADDY: Did you recognize the actor who plays him?

LILLY: No who is he?

DADDY: Johnny Depp you have seen him in a few movies. He was also Edward Scissorhands for example.

LILLY: Really he looks really different?

DADDY: Actor.

LILLY: Lol. 

DADDY: What was your favourite moment?

LILLY: I liked the bit when Elizabeth (Keira Knightly) burns all the rum and Jack asks why?

DADDY: I liked that too and I love every scene Jack Sparrow is in but my favourite moment is when we first see him so proud on his little row boat.

LILLY: Yes. I also like the bit when Norrington (Jack Davenport) says he is the worst pirate ever and Jack says "But you have heard of me!"

DADDY: Yeah Jack Sparrow is the coolest pirate ever.

DADDY: Would you recommend this to your friends?

LILLY: It is very, very scary and has skeletons  so I think it would be too frightening for them.

DADDY: Maybe but it is still one of my favourite films

LILLY: I'm giving it fifteen and a half stars.

DADDY: I'm giving it the same then, fifteen men on a dead man's chest. Yo ho, yo ho a pirates life for me!

ParaNorman (2012)

ParaNorman (2012) is a 3D stop motion horror fantasy film directed by Sam Fell and Chris Butler who also wrote the screenplay. A small lonely boy can commune with the dead

DADDY: What did you think of the movie? 

LILLY: I thought it was splendid and amazing.

DADDY: I thought it was fun too.

DADDY: Who was your favourite character?

LILLY:  I liked the fat kid Neil.

DADDY: I did too, he had a very sensible attitude to bullying.

LILLY: Yeah.

DADDY: What was your favourite moment?

LILLY: I liked the bit when Norman's sister asked out Neil's big brother and he said he would bring his boyfriend.

DADDY: That was my favourite moment too and the film was all about accepting people for who they are.

LILLY: Yes.

DADDY: Would you recommend this to your friends?

LILLY: Yes because it was very funny and not too scary.

LILLY: I'm giving it ten stars because it was great fun.

DADDY: I'm giving it ten too.

DADDY: Would you like to be able to see dead people?

LILLY: Yes that would be cool.

DADDY: I liked that Norman enjoyed horror movies and had the same Halloween (1978) ringtone as me.

LILLY: Get over yourself daddy you are such a nerd!

The Life Of Pi (2012)

Life Of Pi (2012) is a 3D adventure fantasy film directed by Ang Lee based upon Yann Martel's Booker Prize winning novel. A 16 year old Indian boy survives a shipwreck in which his family perished and shares a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.

DADDY: What did you think of the movie? 

LILLY: I thought it was beautiful and scary.

DADDY: I thought it was amazing and lyrical.

LILLY: Yeah.

DADDY: Who was your favourite character?

LILLY:  I liked Pi.

DADDY: It was all about him really and the tiger Richard Parker.

LILLY: Who is your favourite character?

DADDY: I liked him and the tiger.

DADDY: What was your favourite moment?

LILLY: When they called him names in school.

DADDY: He was very clever about stopping that bullying wasn't he?

LILLY: Yes.

DADDY: I liked when Pi tried to mark his own territory on the boat by weeing and the tiger weed on him.

LILLY: That was good too, it would be my second favourite moment.

DADDY: Would you recommend this to your friends?

LILLY: No because it was too scary, mum watched it with us and she screamed.

DADDY: She screams at anything.

LILLY: I sort of agree.

LILLY: I'm giving it four out of five stars because it was a bit too sad.

DADDY: It was an emotional film. I'm giving it five stars because it was beautiful and made me think a lot.

Grease (1978)

Grease (1978) is a musical directed by Randy Kleiser, it was based upon the stage musical by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs. Set in 1959 It follows the relationship of two young lovers from different sides of the tracks.

DADDY: What did you think of the movie? 

LILLY: It was unreal.

DADDY: I thought you would like it.

LILLY: I don't like it, I love it.

DADDY: I thought it was fun and it was the first time I saw it too. Is it your new favourite movie?

LILLY: Yes!

DADDY: Who was your favourite character?

LILLY:  I liked Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) because she is beautiful and a good singer.

DADDY: I liked Danny (John Travolta) because he has got the moves. I've got them too.

LILLY: Lol!

DADDY: What was your favourite moment?

LILLY: My favourite moment is the song "You're the One That I Want."

DADDY: It is catchy but I prefer "Greased Lightnin."

LILLY: I like that one too.

DADDY: Would you recommend this to your friends?

LILLY: Yes because it's a really funny musical.

DADDY: It was adapted from a stage musical.

LILLY: Can I see it?

DADDY: If it ever plays Brisbane you may.

LILLY: I'm giving it thirty five stars because it is my favourite movie ever.

DADDY: OK, I'll give it thirty then as it was better than I had ever imagined it would be.

LILLY: Noooooo!

Frankenstein (1931)

Frankenstein (1931) is the classic Universal horror film loosely based on Mary Shelly's novel. It was directed by James Whale and adapted from a play by Peggy Webling. 

DADDY: What did you think of the movie? 

LILLY: It was exciting.

DADDY: You thought it was a bit short.

LILLY: Yes.

DADDY: I've seen this lots of times and I still love it

DADDY: Who was your favourite character?

LILLY:  I liked the mad scientist.

DADDY: I liked Frankenstein (Colin Clive) too, he's nuts! 

LILLY: Yeah!!

DADDY: I like the monster (Boris Karloff) more though.

LILLY: You would.

DADDY: What was your favourite moment?

LILLY: I liked the bit when he throws the little girl into the water.

DADDY: That was a surprise.

LILLY: Yes.

DADDY: I liked that bit and when Frankenstein realizes his experiment has worked "It's alive, it's alive, it's alive!"

DADDY: Would you recommend this to your friends?

LILLY: No, I don't think they would like it.

DADDY: Yeah perhaps not.

LILLY: I'm giving it ten stars.

DADDY: I'm giving it ten too.

DADDY: I felt a bit sorry for the monster.

LILLY: The same because he didn't have the right brain.

DADDY: You have the same birthday as Boris Karloff which is cool.

LILLY: You are a creepy nerd!

The Mask (1994)

The Mask (1994) is a comedy/fantasy based upon a series of comic books. It was directed by Chuck Russell. An inhibited young bank clerk, Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) finds a mysterious magical mask which transforms him. 

DADDY: What did you think of the movie? 

LILLY: It was awesome and funny.

DADDY: I liked it too when it got going.

LILLY: Yeah it was a bit boring at the beginning.

DADDY: Who was your favourite character?

LILLY:  You know I liked the dog the best.

DADDY: Milo? He steals the picture and is funny and cute.

LILLY: Yes he is.

DADDY: He was my favourite character too.

DADDY: What was your favourite moment?

LILLY: When the police started dancing.

DADDY:  Yeah that was so funny, they couldn't help themselves.

LILLY: I agree.

DADDY: I liked when Milo did a wee on one of the bad guys..

LILLY: That was funny too.

DADDY: Would you recommend this to your friends?

LILLY: Yes because it isn't scary but it was funny

LILLY: I'm giving this nine stars because it has a slow start.

DADDY: I'm giving it nine too because I thought the comic was better.

DADDY: Did you recognize the actor who played Stanley Ipkiss?

LILLY: No I didn't.

DADDY: He was the bad guy in A Series Of Unfortunate Events (2004)?

LILLY: He is very good at playing different wacky characters.

DADDY: Would you put on the mask?

LILLY: It matters what situation I would be in. Would you dad?

DADDY: I don't think I need to.

LILLY: Really?

DADDY: Yeah I'm daft enough already.

LILLY: I don't agree!

Rise Of The Guardians (2012)

Rise Of The Guardians (2012) is a computer animated fantasy film directed by Peter Ramsey based upon a series of books by William Joyce. Jack Frost reluctantly joins a group of legendary characters to stop Pitch Black, the king of nightmares from plunging the world into darkness.

DADDY: What did you think of the movie? 

LILLY: It was awesome and I loved it.

DADDY: I thought it was fun too despite nodding off at the beginning.

LILLY: I know you fell asleep. I could hear you snoring a bit.

DADDY: Yes but your sharp elbows woke me up and the film got more interesting.

DADDY: Who was your favourite character?

LILLY:  I liked the tooth fairy (Isla Fisher) because she was so pretty.

DADDY: I liked all the characters but I think I liked Pitch Black (Jude Law) the best.

LILLY: That's because you always like the evil characters the best.

DADDY: They are the most interesting and I think nightmares help us deal with our fears.

LILLY: I agree.

DADDY: What was your favourite moment?

LILLY: I liked when the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman) was small.

DADDY:  Yeah he was so cute!

LILLY: I agree.

DADDY: I liked that the elves were silly and the yetis made all the toys.

LILLY: Same.

DADDY: Would you recommend this to your friends?

LILLY: Yes and I reckon when I go back to school heaps of kids will have seen this.

DADDY: You are not wrong.

LILLY: I'm giving this ten stars.

DADDY: I'm giving it nine because it could have been scarier.

LILLY: It is a kids film Daddy!

DADDY: I am a big kid.

LILLY: Lol.
